Project Ö: Public Outreach
The diffusion of concepts, methods, and visions of the collaborative research centre SFB 1083 on Structure and Dynamics of Internal Interfaces into the general public is the general aim of project Ö. Connecting the scientific part of SFB 1083 with understandable experience and information for the public is again the focus for the next funding period.
Using first-hand experience gained in walk-on experiments on the one hand, and providing well prepared explanations and background information on the other hand, represents the heart of the project, which should be further continued and broadened with respect to digital experiments in the next funding period. Project Ö makes use of the institution Chemikum Marburg e.V., the basic idea of which is to fascinate the public – in particular children and high-school students – for natural sciences. So far, the presented experiments, developed by colleagues and academic staff of the natural science departments of Philipps-Universität Marburg (already including some PIs and co-workers of SFB 1083), stand for chemical, biological, pharmaceutical, and physical subjects related with all-day phenomena or beyond. The introduction of basic ideas and methods of SFB 1083 to the public, namely preparation, investigation or application of interfaces, is reflected in a series of experiments developed in the former funding periods.
